Darrin Saves a Bunny!

Well, Darrin was pretty proud of himself today when he saved a baby bunny! He was helping me pull weeds around the house and happened to see this little baby bunny in the window well. Good thing he is so observing like his daddy! So, we locked the dogs in the garage as they have been known to snack on poor little bunnies... Darrin was so excited! He moved all the leaves away from the poor bunny and made room for John to pick it up. The little bunny sat still for about 5 seconds, then took off hopping. Darrin was bummed at first cuz he wanted to give the bunny a carrot... We told him he was a HERO cuz he saved the baby bunny. He was happier then - especially when he saw that we had some pictures of him and the bunny.

I can't believe he saw him as the bunny blended right in with the leaves!

He was ready to save the bunny but not quite ready to grab it himself...

That's where Daddy came in to help!

The bunny let Darrin pet it a couple times then off it went!

He also found a worm in the dirt. Saving bunnies and finding worms... What more could a 5 year old boy in the country as for! :)

Jordan's First Birthday

Darrin was very excited to celebrate Jordan the Cat's first birthday on May 5th! He thought we should get him "5 or 3 presents because he had lost some of the ones we gave him for Christmas...". I got him two thinking that was plenty. My friend Joan just happened to have a birthday hat for Jordan and we got him a can of cat food with a candle in it. Not "lighted" as Darrin pointed out but still had the same effect...

Ryan - Dada drives the Tractor

Ryan is really starting to talk now. His favorite words are Boppa, Dada, Mama and a little Grandma here and there. His favorite book is a tractor book and his favorite page is where there is a combine loading up a tractor and wagon with corn. "Bappa" is in the combine and "Dada" is in the tractor. Here is a a quick video of him talking. I am not quite sure why all my best videos of the kids are when they are in their unders or diapers... :)

Easter 2009

We had a beautiful day to celebrate Easter. It was sunny and warm, well, warm for that time of year in MN! The boys enjoyed the Easter Egg hunt - finding all 60 eggs! Darrin figured out that some had quarters and some had candy so by the end of opening them, if he shook it and it didn't rattle, he tossed it aside. Had to find those quarters! :)

Ryan's First Haircut

Well, I finally gave in and had Ryan's hair cut for the first time. I was hoping his little mullet would have some cute curl to it longer than 5 minutes out of the tub but it just kinda turned into a fuzzy mess each time instead. Here are some pictures of his first time in the barber chair. He did great and liked the sucker he got afterwards!

Darrin and Ryan - Checking out some toys

Here is a video of Darrin and Ryan doing a little early (well, VERY early) Christmas shopping in a catalog. Darrin really likes to help Ryan out when he can and he has such a cute voice when he talks to him! It's amazing how they can "talk" to each other when Ryan's main word is "uh uh" which depending on his tone of voice can mean "yes", "no" or "what's that". :)

Darrin's Next Milestone - His First Lost Tooth!

The tooth was now ready to be left for the Tooth Fairy!!!

He looks so cute with his missing tooth grin! He is pretty proud of it - that's for sure!

Here is how it went... It was hanging by a thread for days but Darrin finally lost his first tooth! He was so excited! He was eating a fruit rollup (I know - not the best food for the REST of his teeth...) and he calmly said "my tooth fell out". We put the tooth in a baggie with a little note to the Tooth Fairy and brought it to his room. Darrin didn't want to leave it under his pillow as he didn't want the Tooth Fairy to have a hard time getting it out. Apparently he is able to read my mind!!! The Tooth Fairy had no problem retrieving the tooth from the shelf on Darrin's bed and replacing it with a few quarters and two Hot Wheels cars to add to the Kuyper Used Car lot in the basement. Darrin got up the next morning and completely forget to look on the shelf until I reminded him. He loved the cars - not getting too excited about the quarters. So - another little chapter in his life has begun - losing teeth! No others are loose or threatening to come out so the Tooth Fairy has a little time to plan for the next visit to the Kuyper house.

Ryan loves to imitate Katie and Darrin. He has been known to try to "knock out" the TV with the Wii game remotes and rock out with Darrin and I as well play air guitar to the 80's Rock Band radio station. He likes to do just about anything Darrin does - even if it is just to spin around on the kitchen floor! That darn diaper doesn't slide as well as Darrin's clothes though...

Darrin's Christmas Program
